January 2010 Artist of the Month
Michie resident Joe Spears likes to think bold when putting colors on canvas. The Corinth Artist Guild Gallery is hosting an exhibit of his work, “Color in Motion,” throughout January. The exhibit consists of large paintings — primarily acrylic — on canvas and is available for viewing beginning this Saturday. An opening reception with the artist is set for Sunday, Jan. 17, from 2 until 4 p.m. at the gallery at 507 Cruise Street.
The reception has been delayed a week because of the weather. The self-taught artist’s work is largely abstract with bright colors and a sense of movement. Spears, originally from Georgia, works in steel fabrication at Yellow Creek and enjoys doing auto restoration work. He tries to find a few hours to paint each evening.
